Rectangular wooden nestbox.
This is the most common type of nestbox and the type often sold in various
sizes from pet stores.
Basically it is a retangular box with a entrance hole near the top and
and opening lid or flap on the front. The nest area is at the bottom of
the box. The overall size of the box and the diameter of the entrance hole
will depend on the size of the bird.
Probably the biggest disadvantage of this design is that a bird entering
the nestbox will drop down on top of any eggs or another bird already in
the nestbox.
This situation can be improved by including a shelf just below the entrance
hole in such a way that a bird entering can not drop directly to the nest
area.
